Auditions
Do you sing or beatbox? You’re in the right place. Treble on Huntington is Northeastern’s first women's a cappella group and we welcome new members to join our musical endeavors each semester. Whether you’re just a shower singer or you release music of your own, we’d love to see you audition this fall!
Each audition time slot is only about five minutes long.
Check out our FAQ below to make sure you come prepared! If you receive a callback, we'll notify you by phone or email. Be sure to check your junk folder too, just in case! :)
FAQ
What does the audition consist of?
Ascending and descending scales to test your range, pitch-matching, (optional) sight-reading, and a one-minute performance of a song that shows off your voice!
I’m a beatboxer… how is my audition different?
You certainly won’t have to sing! We will ask you to show off some of your kit, sight-read a beatbox pattern, and then perform a short set or pattern of your own.
Do I need to know how to sight-read music?
Nope! The sight-reading is not required for the audition, but we ask in case you’re comfortable and want to give it a shot. If you choose to do it, you can sing it on any syllable (ooh, ah, doo, etc., or solfege).
How long should my audition song be?
About one minute, usually a verse and chorus. It can be any portion of the song that you want.
Can I look at lyrics during my solo?
Yes!
Can I use a backtrack for my solo?
No… we’re an a cappella group, after all!
Can I use a starting note?
Absolutely! You can play it on your phone or on the piano.
What kind of song should I sing for my solo?
A song that shows off your range and vocal agility! Definitely in English & preferably a pop song (it does not have to be current, though). Check out our current repertoire on our website or on streaming platforms for inspiration.
Can I sing a musical theater song?
Nope! We perform primarily pop music, so we ask that you show off your style in that genre!
Can I sing two songs?
No, sorry! We have a lot of auditionees and limited time to hear them all. Please stick to one minute of one song.
How early should I come to my audition?
Please arrive 10 minutes before your audition slot in case we are ahead of schedule. If you aren’t called in early, you’re welcome to use this time to warm up.
What if I didn’t sign up for an audition slot?
We encourage walk-ins! Just come in at any point during our audition hours for that day and we’ll fit you in between scheduled auditions.
Do I need to bring anything else to the audition?
No, just yourself! Bring water to stay hydrated and lyrics to your solo if you need them.
I identify as non-binary, can I audition?
Absolutely!
Do I have to be a student at Northeastern University to audition?
Nope! We welcome all women and nonbinary singers and beatboxers in the Boston area. We just ask that you live in Boston full-time from September-May.
Is it hard to get in?
Our group usually has around 12 members, so auditions are definitely competitive, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t audition! We encourage everyone to audition because the needs of the group vary each semester, and you never know what we are looking for. You may be the perfect fit!
Please DM us (@trebleonhuntington) or email us ([email protected]) if you have any questions or issues at all! We cannot wait to hear your beautiful voices! <3
